Indonesia’s trade surplus increased in August, amid a bigger decline in imports than in exports, figures from Statistics Indonesia showed on Tuesday.
The trade surplus increased to $2.33 billion in August from $0.09 billion in the last year. Economists had expected a surplus of $2.16 billion. In July, the trade surplus was $3.24 billion.
Exports declined 8.36 percent year-on-year in August. Economists had expected a decline of 16.65 percent.
Imports fell 24.19 percent annually in August. Economists had forecast a decrease of 22.48 percent.
On a monthly basis, exports fell 4.62 percent, while imports increased 2.65 percent in August.
