During a pro-Palestine rally on Capitol Hill, Rep. Tlaib, the sole Palestinian American in the US Congress, delivered a passionate speech on Wednesday. She broke down into tears as she called for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Tlaib expressed her anguish at the indiscriminate bombings, particularly those targeting hospitals where children are treated. She stated, “That’s what’s been really painful — just continue to watch people think it’s okay to bomb a hospital where children. You know, what’s so hard sometimes is watching those videos and the people telling the kids, ‘Don’t cry.’ But like, let them cry! And they’re shaking, and somebody — you know this — they keep telling them not to cry in Arabic. They can cry, I can cry, we all can cry. If we’re not crying, something is wrong.”
Tlaib also addressed President Biden, saying, “I’m telling you right now President Biden, not all America is with you on this one. And you need to wake up and understand that. We are literally watching people commit genocide and killing a vast majority… and we still stand by and say nothing. We will remember this.”
Emphasizing her point, she told the protesters that they were “on the right side of history.” Tlaib had previously echoed Hamas’ claim that Israel bombed the hospital in a post on Tuesday. This claim persists despite video evidence and the US National Security Council’s assessment that the damage and casualties resulted from a terrorist group’s own rockets, as reported by Fox News.
In this ongoing conflict, emotions are running high, and international attention remains focused on the situation in the Middle East. The accusations and counter-accusations between different parties have made it a challenging and complex issue to address.
