Kochi: Customs officials at Cochin International Airport Ltd (Cial) seized Indian currency worth Rs 15 lakh, foreign currency worth Rs 1.25 lakh and two kilograms of
gold in three separate instances since Tuesday. On Tuesday, based on an intel received by the Central Industrial Security Force, a Tamil Nadu native, who was on a flight to Kulalampur, was offloaded from the flight and following examination of the suspect, Rs 15 lakh as well as Rs 1.25 lakh worth foreign currency were seized by the customs department. Meanwhile on Wednesday, the Customs Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) probe also foiled a bid to smuggle 1,051g of gold by a Kasaragod native who arrived from Dubai. In another bid, the customs intercepted a Malappuram native who arrived from Abu Dhabi with 954g of gold which were concealed inside his body.
Three held with MDMA, ganja: Kochi city police on Wednesday arrested three youths hailing from Mattancherry for possessing banned narcotic substances such as MDMA and ganja. The accused were identified as Nuhas (23), Naseeb (26) and Shahrukh (28). Police seized 1.24g of MDMA from Nuhas, 0.46g of MDMA from Naseeb and four grams of ganja from Shahrukh. The accused were nabbed with the help of narcotic sniffer dogs Bravo and Steffy. According to police, further investigation into the source of the narcotic substances is in progress.
